Striker's right - to our pitiful little human brains, there really is no practical difference between "infinite" and "an amazingly huge number." The fact that all "crossovers" we've seen occur between "our" universe and the one particular "mirror" universe leads one ot believe that there are a far smaller number f universes out theres, and/or the MU is, indeed, linked in a special way to our own.

Or are we SURE it is the same universe? The mirror universe COULD have split into two more universes. One giving us the joke of a MU in DS9, and the one that SHOULD have been in Diane Duane's book.

Well we know that in Trek universes "branch" every time a decision is made, like in Parallels. The Mirror Universe Kirk visited is one such line that branched off from ours at some point in the past. It absolutely should continue branching over time after Kirk leaves. So really there will be many different versions of the mirror universe in existence where Kirk visited, and then it took one course or another afterwards.

So really there's no reason why the DS9 and the Diane Duane versions of the MU shouldn't both exist.

Personally I think the DS9 version of the MU sucked ass. It missed the whole point of the MU. The Enterprise version rocked, though, and got it exactly right. So did Duane's version.

Again, agreed. The DS9 version was nothing like the original from TOS, and the ENT version was surprisingly good (probably the best of the entire ENT series).

I'll take the Sailor Moon universe. Besides Star Trek, it's one of the few fictional realities I'd want to live in.
