So, not much has changed in the ten years since I quit high school?

Disturbing.
Well you know what they say, "the more things change..."

I was not aware they had jackets for academics. I guess I should've given it a bit more time, and bit the bullet, going to saturday school and summer school to make up for my (excused) absences.

Hey! I had an athletic letter! And never once juiced... I value my testicles too much.

Don't know what they call them up in cod-land, but we were talking about varsity letters in high school, and the theory that they are usually accompanied by the use of anabolic steroids.

I'm not sure we have them actually.

In short: if you are involved in one or more sports in high school - some schools offer them for academic extracurricular activites also - and play on the "varsity" (top tier) inter-school squad, you get a letter (usually the initial of your school) to patch onto a special varsity jacket, which also gets embroidered with your name, event or position, etc.

For example:

Oh those things. We do have them, though IIRC they just have the school crest and the team on them. I wasn't exactly into sports in HS, more into seeing how many capacitors I could explode in electronics.

You were smart. I took my teacher (yes, the teacher) up an a dare to see how high I could turn up the Lab-Volt workbench power supply, and then how long I could hold onto the leads. Even with the current turned all the way down, it's interesting to see how high voltage causes muscle paralysis - I won the bet, because I literally couldn't force my hands to let go of the leads even when I wanted to.

Nice. I'm surprised the teacher didn't realise that would happen, though.

Ah, so he willingly paid to let a student suffer.
Sounds like my kinda guy.
