I just had a realization about the GCS. The "neck" of the ship flares into the saucer section kind of like a cobra. I remember thinking that years ago, when it was on TV, but hadn't thought about it since I stopped seeing the ship all of the time. On monday that TNG marathon was on sci-fi, and I remembered. I wonder if it was modeled after a cobra..........
