I'd go for a mixture - 40cm ablative external armour, with high density internal armour around critcal systems (W/C, AM storage, bridge, etc).

Yeah I think mixture is the better option. I'm suprised such a thin covering of armour is winning at the moment.

I wonder if adaptive armour or shielding (whatever the borg use) is out of the question. Starfleet has Seven of nine... they could assign her in charge of a new armour-shield project which could come into fruition around 2390.

Does the thickness of the hull equals the thickness of the armour. If it so than considering the Q who episode when tje E-D was cut open like an apple, the thickness is to small.

I agree. For their size, I've always thought most SF ships are armored like tissue paper.

I don't think so, Snoopy. I'd guess that the armor being accounted for is "on top" of the actual hull structure.

In my opinion there is the hull which is the bare minimum covering for the ship. Anything added to that is armour.

Well I just think that the thicness that you propose are just to small. I would say that normal armour on a ship is something like 0,5m-1m thick and your numbers would basicly describe the thickness of ablative armour.

Remember these are advanced strong metals with high grade SIFs in them.

But then you trade off speed and agility. But thats what a battleship is. Honestly I'm suprised higher armour rating isnt more popular. This is supposed to be a battleship.

I voted for a small craft originally but now we have got this I figure we make it properly.

When did we agree on a battleship?
