IIRC, the '85 Bears did in fact line up Perry at tailback once or twice, and even gave him the ball once.

Yes. They even sent Perry into the endzone in that laugher of a Super Bowl. Ditka regretted that because, in hindsight, he wished he had given a TD to Walter Payton.

As I recall, that Super Bowl was the Mike Singletary Show anyway.

That was the one where they slaughtered the Patriots, right? I loved that one.

It was, but I must correct myself. The MVP was a defensive standout, but it was Richard Dent at DE rather than Singletary at LB.
