Re: "Message in a Bottle"
I like those odds.
What does defeat mean to you?
Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
That's true, plus they got alot better over time. TNG season one, a malfunctioning holodeck could have erased everybody inside (still not sure how that was supposed to work, quantum maybe? )

Safer odds then a warp core breach on a GCS.Rochey wrote:Oh, come on, guys. You're overstating the problem here. The holodeck isn't that bad. I mean, it only malfunctions 87% of the time.

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
Exactly. See? We're just overstating how utterly craptastic the GCS is.

Ahh, a never ending topic for me to rant and insult about....

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
Ahh, your overstating another problem. It's not like the warp core on a GCS breached EVERY episode. Only every few episodes. BTW, why didn't anybody ever get Worf a chair? Can Klingons get vericose veins?

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
Can you imagine how utterly boring it is being the CO/XO during travelling? Do they actually just sit in their chair for 8 hours without any buttons to push or anything to do?!

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
8 hours seems ridiculous considering the amount of crew they are carrying. If it was me, it would be 6 4-hours shifts with rotating duties. Can you see standing at tactical for 8 hours a day? At least you could run diagnostics or play solitare, but those guys pay the price in bordem for those comfey chairs. But that is something I've often wondered. What do they do during travel time at those duty stations when absolutely nothing is going on?

There is only one way of avoiding the war – that is the overthrow of this society. However, as we are too weak for this task, the war is inevitable. -L. Trotsky, 1939

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
I just had a thought on why the Captain's chair doesn't have any buttons or controls on them in the 24th century.
We know how often consoles blow up, so maybe it's some sort of safety measure for the Captain? Keeping him as far away from computers as possible?

Re: "Message in a Bottle"
On a related note, you notice how the chairs and uniforms are always a dark colour? Might it be so that if the captain sh*ts himself no one can see and he can blaim the smell on the plasma leak...
