Well, random dialing until you hit something would be a safe bet.

Re: Stargate Andromeda game comments
ya but Carter did that for years between the mission to Abydos and the formation of the SGC with no luck....not a good idea for a mission premise
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

Well it doesn't help that the Dialing at SGC took several minutes each. Where having a computer controlled DHD allows the same process to be completed in 3-5 seconds.

Re: Stargate Andromeda game comments
true, but her ultimate breakthrough didn't come until after finding the cartouche on Abydos, so we're still talking about potentially years of random dialing before locking in on any gate

Who's to say they didn't already spend years working on this?

I'm not saying we can't do it, just that it's kind of impractical.Deepcrush wrote:Who's to say they didn't already spend years working on this?
Even if they have got one lock, that's one address, how are we going to get all the other ones?

Well, we have a uber-fast ship that is able to cross the galaxy in a month. Not sure why we wouldn't just use that until we locate some addresses. Also, once we find a single world with an intact gate. We can cross their symbols with the location of our base and have a rough idea as to where we can try dialing.

Perhaps a list of addresses was found in the Abydos cavern found by the Apollo?

Re: Stargate Andromeda game comments
here are three ideas that came to me while I was taking tests for my Astro course:
1. Repeat of SG1 basically, we get lucky find an address and it has a cartouche full of gate addresses
2. It's possible that depending on when the Seeding ships were sent out that the Database in Atlantis (which is now on Earth) may have gate addresses for many of the early seeded Galaxies like Andromeda since their so close by
3. The crew trapped aboard Destiny would be able to find the addresses if they can look through Destinies memory, since it would have gotten the info from the ship that seeded that Galaxy.
I personally think 2 is our best option, for 1 we'll be dependent on Gua'uld worlds to travel to so no Alpha Site, and for 3 it would require them memorizing a list using the communication stones to write them down and over and over again until we get the list.

So, not to make this all about me but if/when we decide what we're doing/where we're going, is the intrepid Doctor going with?

AFAIK, every PC we've created is a member of SG-Alpha so where it goes, they go (that would be a yes)

As was stated in "The Story So Far"....
In the original temple housing the gate from the first recon mission, the walls were decorated with gate addresses. More may always be discovered, or calculated after being located by the Dauntless.
