It's possible that a war broke out between the builders of the Dyson Sphere, and another race of equal power. Given that the race that built the Sphere are no longer around, we can assume they became extinct due to some event. A massive war could easily achieve MAD for both sides, and lead to the destruction of any other spheres lying around. It's possible that the sphere we saw was set up during the closing stages of the war, possibly as a hidden refuge for civilians who had been forced to abandon their previous homes. When the government was destroyed, those living on the Sphere would have ran out of food, water, and other essential supplies. That would explain how they all disapeared.
Of course, all of that is just non canon speculation, but I like that explaination.

My Theory was that who ever built it was increadably advanced and been around for ages. So they may have just evolved into something like Q or the prophets. Non corperal beings with no need for the shell.

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

Just because you can travel doesnt mean you will. I cant see them leaving it unless they didnt need it anymore or were forced to.

Doesn't mean you won't, either. There is no reason to ascribe human sensibilities to patently non-human beings. If they were able to build these things, there is no reason to assume that the shells were any more precious to them than a dilapidated apartment building might be to us.

Or really really patient.Yeah. We don't know if they're extinct or... anything about them, really. Except that they're incredibly advanced, technologically.

The race that built the Sphere could have been less technologically advanced than the Federation, in some ways.
They would have to have self repairing automated nano-equipment,
perhaps artificial intelligence
and a mastery of cold fusion.....
but not even tech as advanced as replicators.
Siphon off hydrogen and helium from the star...
fuse three helium into carbon,
and one hydrogen into one neutron
total volume of the spheres structure itself is some 3.02 x 10 to the 17 km3
or 3.02 x 10 to the 26 cubic meters
or 3.02 x 10 to the 32 cubic centimeters
Estimated density of the Sphere is 2 grams per cc
6.04 x 10 to the 32 grams
6.04 x 10 to the 29 kg
Our sun has a 1.989 x 10 to the 30 kg mass.
so about a third of a star the size of our sun
would be syphoned off to form the Dyson sphere.
Changeing the mass of a star changes the interior pressures
and the energy output.
A change in our sun's energy output could easily disrupt life on the entire planet.

That would seem far to advanced for the Federation let alone someone less advanced than them.

I can understand being specialised in one area. A species being really good and teleporters or something. But to be so increadbly good at something and very poor at the other strains credabilty. Its possible but very unlikely.

I think the safest assumption is that they were equaly advanced in all areas.

At least. Their materials science must be fantastically advanced if they're able to building something that size. It's big enough to risk being ripped apart by its own mass.Rochey wrote:I think the safest assumption is that they were equaly advanced in all areas.
