I was simply stating that they were better armed, however I get your point.

On subject, I like the design of the Delta Flyer. But the ship is practically a small starship.

Just never got the whole circular viewports though...

I think Tom did it for aesthetics. He put in 'retro' controls after all.

Yeah. Half the design was "because it is cool" but at least he (Tom) admitted it was because it was cool.

I don't mind it. I mind more that 'shuttle' is larger than it should be.

Or larger than could be built under the circumstances, or larger than could actually fit through the bay...

All of the above.

Or the fact a second one was built pretty quickly. Probably wouldn't bother me as much if the construction was spread through a few episodes and the shuttle actually fits through the shuttle bay.

It took them less than a week to build the first one, including designing.

Exactly. Stranded without access to UFP tech base, short on materials, and done by a helmsman rather than a design engineer... they shouldn't have been able to build a soapbox racer in that time, let alone a mini-starship.

An engineer did help.

Still doesn't even come close to being likely. Might as well ask some people on a deserted island to design and build a galley in a week.

I agree.

An engineer can only do what he/she with the available resources at his/her disposal. Voyager should have had trouble building the exisiting shuttles it already has plans to, let alone building a brand new from scratch hotrod.

But considering that Voyager was in the same condition when she left DS9 through the 7 seasons, I guess building a Delta Flyer shouldn't be a problem.

Rehashing an old argument, but a Voyager that degraded over time would have made for a much more interesting show. Instead the ship, and by and large the crew, came out of the Voyage with barely any change.

Exactly. A Voyager that looked even remotely close to what it should have looked like after many hard battles when they built the Delta Flyer would have been able to.

Similar to how the buBSG built the stealth plane. It was made of spare parts and needed an ace pilot to fly it.
