Delta Mission Brief

Post by Mark »

Approximately two and a half years ago, a so-called "warp highway" was discovered in the Purgatory Cluster. Starfleet and UFP science details were quick to explore its nearest extent, and soon charted a number of systems and made a number of first contacts. When trade and cultural exchange began, Limbo Station - a Starbase 173-type station - was positioned near the close end of the highway and used as a base of operations for exploration, charting, and envoy missions.

Further exploration continued, and soon orbital offices and auxiliary stations were placed in convenient but uncontested locations. All was well until about 14 months ago, when the numbers of ships lost went way up, well past the rate of simple attrition. Some wreckage was found occasionally, but more often ships just went MIA. Admirals Grayling and Sinclair called in the help of a ship more capable than anything else in the fleet, and certainly more capable than anything attached to the exploration effort - the Paladin-class USS Templar. Unfortunately, the Templar failed to find anything after 6 months of searching, and was reassigned to her original duties. Losses continued, and Starfleet's third Paladin-class, the USS Cavalier, was diverted for further investigation. After three months, all contact with the Cavalier was lost. Now, Sinclair has demanded more concrete action and Grayling responded by assembling a task force with which he is familiar - the USS Paladin, USS Ravage, and USS Daystrom.

As chief of fleet ops, Rear Admiral Grayling will have direct oversight of the task force's investigative mission, but with the continued pressure and embarrassment of the mounting ship losses, Sinclair has developed a keen interest in the investigation as well. Commodore S'koll, the Vulcan station administrator, has been directed to provide any and all support necessary for the task force - an order to which he as acceded only grudgingly.
They say that in the Army,
the women are mighty fine.
They look like Phyllis Diller,
and walk like Frankenstein.
