Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
Re: Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
I'm just saying that without hard data, it wouldn't be fair to assume your splitting a ship in three parts with no advantage. I agree that splitting a ship in three parts divides effectiveness of each by a third, but we have no hard data to support thats how it works.

Basic engineering principles say that it'll suck. No technobabble, basic engineering.
Re: Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
Yes, but basic engineering doesn't nessessarily hold in Trek. For all we know, they can each be as powerful as the main ship, but can only be fully powered in pieces due to overloading something or other.

Re: Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
Since MVAM is a contentious issue where we either won't agree, can't agree or choose not to, I like to look at the Prommie as if she didn't even have MVAM. In that sense, I reckon she's a pretty damn good battlecruiser. Maybe a bit large and comfy (going from how spacious and clean both sickbay and the Bridge were).

Re: Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
MVAM might actually be useful for something like a survey vessel, where you want to be able to perform multiple tasks at once, but also be able to move at the speed of a larger ship at FTL.

Re: Your Favorite Federation Starship Class
I normally hate bringing an OOU argument into an IU debate - and I normally hate reopening the MVAM debate - but the sad fact of the matter is that the Prommie's MVAM was there for one reason: SFX money shot.

And what a money shot it was.

I didn't think we could even change votes. Doesn't matter to me since I always vote Excelsior anyways.

I'm quite surprised with the poll. I fully expected the Soverign to take it.
