I actually liked the design of the weapon and it's concept......

The episode itself was.... not so good, I mean these things from the greatest weapons manufacturers in the galaxy having an uber dumb AI is ridiculous which is what these things really did have even in the supposed upgraded agility versions, I mean come on..... Our drones of now have better avoidance countermeasures. So the idea was good, implementation on show was crap.

Besides in reality with the technology level of most races in the Trek Verse, decent drones would be standard anyhow......

Maybe. However, that's exactly what it did have, which is why the system was crap.
