To answer the question I totally missed since I stopped paying attention to the thread why I would want a historical accurate portrayal from a fictional character- Its one of those cases where you have a fictional character or ten completely surrounded by real world events and people. Forest Gump is a great example. Forest is complete fictional but he lives just about as exciting of a life during that period as you can. Robin Hood was marketed as that kind of movie. Hell, it was filmed as that kind of movie. They planted a fictional character into a historical piece and usually that works very well. Then they screwed up the convention with having Maid Marian on the battle field.
