Right, the Eris represents something that Apple has eschewed for a long time in all its product lines - an entry level piece (in this case, entry level into the Android market.) That's like taking as evidence the fact that my Hyundai wagon doesn't compare performance-wise to a Bentley GT.

Yeah, just like the Microsoft Kins represent entry level devices, Which I think that's great that they aren't aiming for the same goals anymore.

Well, yeah. Not everybody can afford a really kickass device, and even a crappy computer or phone is better than no computer or phone.

It's a nice little thing that Symbian OS has had cornered for years. Not everyone is willing to pay £40 a month contracts for an iPhone, or £700 for a sim free one.

Nor are they willing to pay for top of the range Winmo/Android phones at £400 a piece. Even bottom range ones at £160/£200 is too high for some.

The cheapest Symbian smarties are in the region of £100 sim free, which is quite a bargain if you ask me.

Yeah, my old POS is starting to show signs of aging. I'd love to replace it with an Android, but I am unwilling to go spend $200 on a phone.

When I'm rummaging through the discount meats at the supermarket, I find it hard to justify spending $200 on practically anything.

I hear ya. There's a reason I'm driving to Cleveland in June, instead of flying.
