TOS Set Renderings (Doug Drexler)

Post by Aaron »

Most of us are familiar by now with Doug Drexlers stuff. I was surfing his blog just now and found these:

http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/01/10/get-set/
http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/03/ ... t-details/
http://drexfiles.wordpress.com/2009/08/ ... -turns-up/

And it includes the real life reason why the E-D had that weird ramp bridge; the TOS bridge was awkward to shoot on with it's multiple levels.

And the TNG set:

That is cool. So, I wonder how many sets in total they built for the E-D?

Indeed, very interesting.

I always wondered though why they didn't make the bridge just a flat level. Did the bridge REALLY need to be a multi level affair?

I presume that the set designers did what they felt looked better, and the difficulty of filming on such a set probably never occurred to them.

It's probably to let them get as many of the characters at once in the screen with the minimal amount of people blocking anyone standing behind them.

Or to center a shot on the command area and still be able to include a character in the scene who's seated at one of the perimeter consoles.
