Aside from the show not being called Battlestar PegasusSonic Glitch wrote:Nostalgia?Mark wrote:I'm curious.....why didn't Adama transfer his flag to the newer and more powerful Pegasus rather than Galactica?

He'd spent most of his career serving on Galactica. He knew the ship and its crew down to the very smallest details. I can't really imagine him transferring to a completely different ship with a completely different crew, regardless of how much more powerful it was.

Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
Not to mention that most of the time Pegasus will be the main target of the enemy as it's the far more dangerous Battlestar.
Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
Ok. I finished last nights DVD with The Captains Hand. First Cain, then Fisk, then the engineer all go down within weeks. So, Pegasus needs a new Commander.
Who gets the job?
Apollo!
I just seems to me that Col. Tigh SHOULD have been next in line rank wise to command Pegasus if the ship itself needed some outside leadership. Hell, what does Apollo know about the command of a Battlestar? He's a fracking CAG!
I can only imagine the Col. will be pissed, and the wife will be plotting something.

Adama was a pilot himself (in the first Cylon war), and so are most USN carrier commanders - they're the ones with the most experience of a carrier's main means of striking its opponents.Mark wrote: Hell, what does Apollo know about the command of a Battlestar? He's a fracking CAG!
Tigh isn't cut out for command, and after the fiasco at the start of the season I expect he realises it by this point. Leave him where he knows what he's doing.I just seems to me that Col. I imagine some feathers would still be ruffeled. Apollo went from Captain, down to Lieutenant, back to Captain, then Major, skipped "Colonel" (which I judge to be a Lt. Col), straight to Commander (full bird Col. I belive). Yeah....some people'd be irritated.

Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
Actually, a modern Commander is equivalent to Lt Colonel, so I suspect the Colonial Colonel is a full Colonel and a Colonial "Commander" is equivalent to Commodore (which makes sense, given that Galactica was the lead ship of Battlestar Group 75 and there's no evidence of a flag officer).Mark wrote: skipped "Colonel" (which I judge to be a Lt. Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
I going to disagree there. Modern carriers are commanded by full ranked Captains (same grade as Col.). In BSG they intersperse army/af/usmc ranks with navy, so there is some confusion. However, here is what we've seen.
Fisk was a Colonel until Cain was killed, and promoted to Commander.
The engineer (i'm blanking on his name) was promoted to Commander.
Apollo was promoted to Commander.
If we assume that your correct, then we must assume that they've completely removed a rank grade from the system, of which we've seen no evidence so far.
They have
Ensign - O1
Lieutenant - O2
Captain - O3
Major - O4
Colonel - O5
Commander - O6
Admiral grades O7 and above.

RDM wrote:The rank structure is derived from the original series. I didn't want to change Commander Adama to Captain Adama or Colonel Tigh to Commander Tigh, so I elected to simply embrace the co-mingled nature of the original rank structure. For our internal purposes, we've decided that the ranks are indeed a mixture of naval and army nomenclature and are basically as follows:
Officers:
* Admiral
* Commander
* Colonel
* Major
* Captain
* Lieutenant
* Lieutenant Junior Grade
* Ensign
Enlisted:
* Master Chief Petty Officer
* Chief Petty Officer
* Petty Officer (1st, 2nd Class)
* Specialist
* Deck Hand
* Recruit
Just to complicate matters further, there are also Marines aboard Galactica which conform more closely to the traditional enlisted Marine ranks, with Sergeants, Sergeant-Majors (sic), etc. Unresolved is the question of whether the Marine officers would also adhere to the mixed rank structure (which sounds odd) or if they are strictly army equivalents (which makes no sense given that the "Navy" ranks seem oblivious to there being any such distinction). Aren't you glad you asked?

Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
Not to mention in "Razor", Lt Shaw made a comment about Daddy handing his son the keys to the Battlestar, as the reason Lee got command. Still, when Adama made her his XO, it did seem to work for a while.Mark wrote:I imagine some feathers would still be ruffeled. Re: Admiral Cain and the Pegasus
Modern carriers also have flag officers aboard to command the battle group. While nBSG Commanders don't appear to be senior flag officers in the same way as the oBSG ones were (given Admiral Cain's appearance), Galactica didn't have a flag officer aboard despite being the lead ship of her group. Hence the equivalence between "Commander" and Commodore.Mark wrote:If we assume that your correct, then we must assume that they've completely removed a rank grade from the system, of which we've seen no evidence so far.

Or a Commander can simply function in that capacity as needed.
