It's amazing and kinda scary how easy kids trust can be bought.

Well, it's official. My daughter is one of us. A sci-fi geek in the making at nine years old. I'm so proud!

She can recite Star Wars (the cartoon, but she IS nine) and is pestering me for when the new Trek comes out on DVD. Then she start asking rather unconfortable questions about HOW a Vulcan and a Human would go about having a bouncing baby Spock :worried:

That's really cute Mark. So, are children worth all the sacrifice?

So, news about my relationship; we broke up, broke off the engagement, everything. After four years and 3 months, I'm single again. Yesterday morning after a week of thinking things over, we decided mutually that we'd never be able to get where we wanted/needed to be. So my brother, being the awesome guy he is, decides not to go visit his in-laws and instead has his wife drop him off in the middle of the city (they were already on their way there), where he goes to get on the public transit to come home to be there for me. I know, it's a tough sell, skipping out on those in-laws... anyways, I picked him up so he didn't have to ride the bus. ,

A few hours later, my girl/ex texts me saying that she can't do it, she's changed her mind, she wants to be with me, etc. This was after she gave me back her engagement ring... And she starts making every promise I've wanted to hear from her since the beginning: "I want to have kids, we can share all our money, we can even get married tomorrow! Please!" Never have I been in a situation even remotely like this, but I held my ground, as painful as it was, and I'm still convinced that it's the right thing to do. She was panicking, and it was heartbreaking beyond description. Today however, she's told me that she'll be OK, even if we're not together, but she still wants to be with me. At least she's not panicking.

I decided that you were right (those of you who generously gave me advice and support), that I'd changed and compromised enough. She and I are good people; we're just not meant for each other.

Feeling emotionally numb right about now, but rationally clear-headed. Which, my therapist says, is normal for someone in this position. I'm also feeling that my brother's couch is really uncomfortable to sleep on. Oh well. Thanks for your advice, dudes. I'm on the right track.

Can I ask a question Grundig? If it's too personal please feel free to tell me you don't want to answer. I only ask because observing what your saying makes me wonder. Has she NOT been in a relationship in one form or another (I mean before you two hooked up) for any length of time? It seems to me that her knee jerk reaction was to promise you ANYTHING to get you back. Makes me wonder if she may need and want to be "in a relationship" more than need and want to be with you, personally.

And yes. Kids are TOTALLY worth the additional headaches. Wives on the other hand........................... :happydevil:

This is an excellent point.

And Mark goes two for two.

Marriage is outdated and overrated. If it happens, good on you, but you sure shouldn't go looking for it like you need it.

I'm just salty because my wife and I got into a stupid argument about money. She wanted $40 bucks, and I don't have any cash and it looks like its going to rain outside. I told her I'd leave her a check on the coffee table. She didn't like that and wanted me to go to the bank to get cash FOR her. Since tomorrow is her day off I didn't feel it was necessary all things considered, so the fight was on
