Yeah, I'd angle down or up. Down and it might have a sort of steamrunner look.GrahamKennedy wrote:I like the nacelle placement from above, but not from the sides. They are indeed too far back. I can shift them forward somewhat, but not too far or they obscure the aft landers. What I might do is angle them down, like on a Nebula class, so they are out of the same plane as the landers altogether.

Don't you hear my call, though you're many years away, don't you hear me calling you?
Re: Starfleet Troop landing craft
I'd just lower the nacelles pylongs a further down the hull without angling them and might be able to shift them forward.
The single connections on the landing craft doesn't look structurally sound. I would place clamps down on the wings. But that's just me.

Re: Starfleet Troop landing craft
Nebula-style nacelle configuration. I like this much better; the nacelles are well out of the way of the landers now and the styling looks a little more like the Galaxy/Nebula style.
If you read the earlier posts, you'll see that I am planning to have wing clamps already.
Oh, and this configuration reduces the length to 368.7 metres.

I like the design, it looks like a Starfleet ship, and I like the stats, very nominal stats.

Re: Starfleet Troop landing craft
I will add, the class name deserves a little explanation. The class is named after winners of the Victoria Cross, with the lead ship named after Lachhiman Gurung, Here's the description of what Rifleman Gurung did in World War II...
On 12/13 May 1945 at Taungdaw, Burma (now Myanmar), Rifleman Lachhiman Gurung was manning the most forward post of his platoon which bore the brunt of an attack by at least 200 of the enemy. Twice he hurled back grenades which had fallen on his trench, but the third exploded in his right hand, blowing off his fingers, shattering his arm and severely wounding him in the face, body and right leg. His two comrades were also badly wounded but the rifleman, now alone and disregarding his wounds, loaded and fired his rifle with his left hand for four hours, calmly waiting for each attack which he met with fire at point blank range. Afterwards, when the casualties were counted, it is reported that there were 31 dead Japanese around his position which he had killed, with only one arm.

The nacelles look 'off' to me. Don't know what it is.

Very cool. And something that SF definitely needs.

Heartily agreed. Although if someone's a Ghurka or a VC, let alone both, you can pretty much take it for granted.Tyyr wrote:We call a lot of people badasses, once in a while we hear of someone who truly was/is one.

All I can say is................wow.
And I'm liking the Nebula nacelles alot better personally.

Re: Starfleet Troop landing craft
I really like the artwork and the basic design and workings of this ship, it reminds me a bit of the one seen in the tng-techmanual but maybe that is a coincidence.
What I think is rather meh is the whole premise of the ship. Now I might be a minority here but I don't see starfleet having a use for such a ship. Maybe the klingon empire when they were still out conquering worlds but not the UFP. Also I am not a huge fan for ships with an ultra-specialist role. Sure they are the very best at the thing they do which means nothing when the average travel time is weeks. Also most of the time they would be mothballed because they just are not needed.
What I do not like is the class name. Sorry but considering a ww3, eugenic wars, a multiple race society I just can't see naming a ship class after a ww2 hero noone really heard about before. Ww2 - altough important - is not the whole of mankinds history but really only a small part, time to get over it.
Aren't the Andorians supposed to be the present day humans in trek aka a bit more militaristic? Name it after a famous Andorian general and create a nice backstory for it for example.
All of this is of course just my opinion and I again I find the artwork and concept really great.

Hmm, it's not directly based off the modular Nova concept, but there's certainly influence there.Atekimogus wrote:I really like the artwork and the basic design and workings of this ship, it reminds me a bit of the one seen in the tng-techmanual but maybe that is a coincidence.
The idea is that these ships were built for or just after the Cardassian conflict. We konw ground actions were involved in that war; having ships that can support them effectively is only common sense. What I think is rather meh is the whole premise of the ship. I have no problem with the idea that these ships would be mothballed during peacetime and taken out again for the Dominion war. Also I am not a huge fan for ships with an ultra-specialist role. Sure they are the very best at the thing they do which means nothing when the average travel time is weeks. Also most of the time they would be mothballed because they just are not needed.
Oh come on, Starfleet is an organisation that has named ships after 20th century anime movies and 19th century imaginary warships! Not to mention ships named after people, places or things that are millennia old. What I do not like is the class name. As a ground forces ship, I wanted names that honour the infantry precisely because such people are generally forgotten in favour of the Generals and Admirals and such. I have no problem with that.

Which I always thought was unimaginitive, boring, lazy etc. hence my challange to do better. (Having a USS Yamato was as surprising as it gets and I am still waiting for a Bismarck, Scharnhorst or Prinz Eugen to even the odds )GrahamKennedy wrote: Oh come on, Starfleet is an organisation that has named ships after 20th century anime movies and 19th century imaginary warships! Can't remember exactly but what was the name of the nebula-class ship in DS9 with the all vulcan crew? I bet not even this ship got a made up vulcan name !
