DITL Species 5- Type of Lifespan
Re: DITL Species 5- Type of Lifespan
You have some good ideas Coalition between that and your other post. I guess the next thread will be social structure. And you can make your case there and it'll be one of the options. So for now we don't have to worry too much how a spore asexual creature will work when it only has children very rarely.
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.

Another reason I chose option D is that it has interesting implications in things we have yet to discuss, like sociology, culture, etc. I get the feeling a long-lived race that procreates rarely would highly value life and that reproduction could be a big ritual.

I haven't been following these discussions too closely but it sounds too me like you guys are thinking of something like the Flood.
Its a parasite though, not a fungus, but I guess a fungus could be a parasite?

We voted down the parasite route. Originally it was following the Orks in Warhammer.LaughingCheese wrote:I haven't been following these discussions too closely but it sounds too me like you guys are thinking of something like the Flood.

Okay, I think we've reached a consensus here. To date, the largest number of votes in one of these polls has been 25, with most being far less. We're now at 19, with Option D in an undefeatable lead, even if all 6 that haven't voted yet vote for its closest competitor.

Perhaps the idea of different castes could coincide with Deep's idea of sexual reproduction? base, short-lived, mindless workers/couriers/drones/whatever could be spawned, while the higher castes of mainstream society would require sexual reproduction.

For me there are two models. A hive system, like stated.
Or something like the Asari. Takes ages to mature, then has a short mating period, then becomes a matriarch (a elder of sorts).

uh...I think you forgot the locking part.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.
