A short and probably poorly detailed summary of Ariel

Post by Reliant121 »

Well people wanted a summary of Ariel from which the Sparrowhawk gunboat was from. so here it goes. this is all written on the fly by the way.

Ariel is the name given to the galaxy in which life exists. There are thousands of star systems and phenomena in Ariel. Many of which have given birth to intelligent life.
The Ariel Republic is the the unified alliance of hundreds of star systems and planets, all headed by the Prime minister, currently a Human named, Dia Naureina. Each planet is represented by one council member that has a vote on what happens in the galactic council, a senate of sorts. The Republic is generally quite peaceful in its decisions, shunning military actions by the many governments militia's or corperate fleets.
All ships are built around one technology. Slipstream drive. Discovered around a millenia ago, it allows ships to open a miniature wormhole named a slipstream. This slipstream is rooted in subspace were distances between locations are far smaller. Using this drive system, whole fleets of ships can cross the galaxy in a matter of days.
The Ariel republic navy is the primary force behind the republic. Its fleets are countless in number and devastating in power. Ships are constructed by contracted shipwrights on many republic worlds, each shipwright contributing to the massive fleet.
Most ships travel at sublight speed via plasma engines. a stream of highly charged plasma particles are pushed out of an engine, generating thrust in the opposite direction. There are normally landing thrusters which are powered by chemical reaction.
Ship to ship weaponry consists of 3 main types. Laser, Battle Laser and Proton cannon. Laser cannons are automatic weapons, fast firing and highly dangerous to fighters and light craft. Battle lasers are similar in technology, but instead of firing streams of small bursts, the energy is consolidated into one much larger burst. Most Battle laser cannons can sustain around 8 shots per barrage while standard lasers fire anything above 30 per barrage.
Proton cannons are highly powerful beam cannons that fire a sustained stream of Proton particles. Most Proton cannons and their firing mechanisms are very large, and are normally only fitted to battlecruisers or above. Some gunships have been hollowed out or modified to carry a single light Proton cannon, but this decreases efficiency in other areas.
Slipstream drives are classified into 4 different groups. Delta, Epsilon, Iota and Omega. each class is more efficient and more powerful than the preceeding one. Delta and Epsilon drives are the most common, often found on civilian markets. Iota drives can be found in civilian hands, but normally only on expensive cruisers or luxury craft. Omega grade engines are very uncommon on civilian markets, usually only reserved for powerful militia's or military forces. some elite civilian ships do mount them.

well...if theres anything you aint sure about, just ask away. this is all kinda randomized but oh well.

You should get this moved to your forum :P
How fast is slipstream?
How many Minbari does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
None. They always surrender right before they finish the job and never tell you why.
