The "Akiraprise," or "Truckerprise" NX-01...
Does anyone else think the NX-01 resembles a truck?
For some reason, when I first saw it, the shape of the deflector and the inset it rests in look strikingly similar to the grill on your average pickup truck.
OH, maybe I'm thinking of a Toyota, where it has that oval logo on the grill? Maybe that's why...
Anyone else see this?

I pretty much just thought it resembled the Akira.

I have to say that the thought of the NX-class resembling a pickup truck never crossed my mind. Remotely. At all.

Me neither. It always just resembled a saucer with nacelles bolted on.

truck no. Akira kind of, but there are some major differences, I know that was one of Graham's gripes about the show but It doesn't bother me that much because it's a fairly simple design which is what one would expect.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

My problem with it are the pointless similarities.
And I have never thought it looked like a truck, though I am trying to picture it now.

There are some differences in the details, like the fact that it's upside down, or the shape of the nacelles, but on the whole it's a near perfect match for the Akira. A pity, because the basic "saucer plus nacelles" concept is pretty good - it's the execution that made it stupid.Lt. Staplic wrote:truck no. Pretty original wouldn't you say? :p
Not the whole thing, I'm mainly thinking of the forward tip housing the deflector dish with the blue grill/panel behind it.stitch626 wrote:My problem with it are the pointless similarities.

On its own, yes. However, what ENT should have had was a design that looked like a precursor to TOS ships.Captain Seafort wrote:because the basic "saucer plus nacelles" concept is pretty good

If you want a really good precursor to TOS ships, go with the Starfleet Museum continuity on Star Trek Minutiae. It's so much more interesting and well thought out than that Enterprise nonsense.

I love that site. Particularly the way you can see his designs evolving slowly into the TOS era ships.
As for the Akiraprise, I've never imagined her as a truck.

I never really minded the NX-01s design to much, BUT I do feel it should have been more "blocky" for lack of a better term.....after all, the ships seem to get more streamlined in the future.
But I HATED the tech. With a passion.

Yeah, I think I had read something that said we would see TNG tech in its earliest development. Didn't happen. There was ONE episode that I distinctly remember where they were developing a force field.Mark wrote:I never really minded the NX-01s design to much, BUT I do feel it should have been more "blocky" for lack of a better term.....after all, the ships seem to get more streamlined in the future.

It could have been a much better series if they had actually shown us some of this progression. That would have been neat.

definately

At least the progression to TOS. If you time it, the NX-01 transporter was FASTER than the TOS transporter in dematerialize and re materializing matter.
