You're right about the looks - it ain't quite as squat as a Hind. As far as role, I think the Hind has been pressed into service to do just about anything... except take off without a runway! *rimshot*

Again, I like the simplicity of the design. Very helicopter-esque. :)

It also reminds me somewhat of the Andersonverse helijets. I assume the repellers rotate to vertical for takeoffs and landings.

This is the direct inspiration for it.

In role it's a Huey/Blackhawk/Hind/ any similar helicopter, but with magic-tech engines in place of rotors. To the Coalition this is a pretty basic, cheap and cheerful kind of a craft, but it does the job. By the Coalition era going from group to orbit is a small, very simple thing and it really doesn't need significant technology to do it.

I don't know how I never noticed this post before. Interesting designs. Not quite as sleek as I'd imagine. I like the "oldest" one the best, I think.

What about land vehicles like modern day tanks and such, or do they also use shuttles for that?

I pretty much suck at designing land vehicles - haven't done any yet.

Now it looks even more like a Hind.

Not that there's anything wrong with that... you know, form following function and all that.
