OK, those of you lucky enough to be British, and who have resisted the siren call of satellite telly, may have not have seen the TNG episode "The High Ground" which apparently has never been shown by the BBC. I certainly don't remember seeing it. It would appear that it's to be shown tonight during the BBC 2 late, late, late friday night TNG double bill.
It's been a long time since there was fresh Trek on the BBC....

The high Ground has a line where Data comments on the successes of terrorist campaigns in the past. Amongst these he lists "the Irish re-unification of 2020" (forget the date).
At the time, this was something of a sore spot in the UK since the folks in the IRA were still busily trying to kill those that didn't agree with them on this point.

The whole premise of the episode was "Provos in space", so it struck too close to home for the Beeb to show it. If an early episode of Enterprise scheduled for November 2001 had depicted a attack similar to 9/11 it would have been pulled too for the same reason.

I'm sure it was shown over here. Although, I do live in Ireland so maybe we just don't take as much offence to it.
The British networks just overreacted to one line, that's all.
