Cannonade class cruiser

Type: Combat cruiser

Crew: 500

Displacement: 22,000 tonnes

Dimensions:- Length: 250 metres
Beam: 30 metres
Draught: 8 metres

Armaments: 1 x 150 mm long range plasma stream (beam configured) cannon, 3 x 76 mm plasma pulse cannons, 3 x quad 10 mm CIWS/Point defense laser cannons
6 x dual long range SSM launchers, 4 x triple long range SAM missile launchers
4 x triple torpedo tubes

Powerplant: Ishimake "Typhoon-16" fusion generator

Engines: 2 Ishimake twin-jet water-jet system, Maximum speed: 51.6 knots

The Cannonade class cruiser was created as a step up from the frigates and destroyers that litter the fleets of the Terran Alliance navy. Cruisers traditionally have been large gun armed craft with minimal missile weaponry. Not anymore.

The Cannonade features a frankly huge armamnt of 6 dual missile launchers, in total 12 missile tubes. No other ship has such a comprehensive missile armament. The cannons are all fairly capable, the beam cannon providing considerable firepower for artillery actions. Her anti-air missile armament is also very potent, as is the anti-submarine torpedo armament.

This ship operates as the perfect mobile assault platform, or a fleet command ship.

The Redoubtable class cruiser uses the tried and tested Cannonade class hull, and removes one of the plasma cannons from the stern. Instead of this weapon, an advanced multi-purpose radar system has been installed, to assist in Aircraft and surface warship directional capabilities. In large offensives, this ship serves as the Command and Control vessel, while still retaining a considerable amount of the weaponry that the original vessel possessed. Unfortunately, the tower that mounts the new directional radar has severely limited the weapon arc of the forward 76 mm cannon, making it only useful as a broadside or bombardment weapon.
