Magelhaes, Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria, St. Brandon? All names are associated with exploring, although the last one is not really an explorer, but a person who is told to sail the seas by god.

Santa Maria is a good contender.

Discovery? Endeavour? Beagle? Golden Hind?

I'm just chucking names in and seeing what people think here.

Endeavour is pretty rockin'. I also like Cochrane and Challenger. Some good ones so far.

Endeavor's not bad. It's in the range of space-shuttle names. The order of shuttles was Enterprise (prototype), Columbia, Challenger, Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor. Enterprise and Columbia are already taken. I think it would make sense that the Earth Starfleet is naming the ships in the same order as the shuttles, making Challenger the NX-03, so we could do NX-06 Endeavor, NX-07 Cochrane or NX-Whatever-the-hell-we-want Whatever-the-hell-name-we-want.

Just a thought.

Vancouver (after George Vancouver), Beagle (Darwins vessel), Matthew (Cabot's vessel) are all good names for an explorer.

Howabout Buran(the russian spaceshuttle. It only flew once but it was actually better the US version.)? I think it translates to snowstorm. I don't think Starfleet would only be naming the NX-class after only the American space shuttles since it is supposed to represent all of Earth, not just the US(or whatever it's called in that era)

I agree. Buran sound near perfect.

If the shuttle naming convention-thingy was followed has the NX-03 through the NX-05 being named after the remaining US shuttles then the Buran would probably be NX-06
