DITL Battle #12 Drancoris vs Spocky

Captain Spocky walked through the holodeck doors and onto the bridge of the new ship. The view screen showed another Steamrunner facing him across the simulated battlefield. The comm system announced that they were being hailed.

"Put it through," Spocky Ordered.

"Welcome gentlemen. You have been selected to test the combat capabilities of our newest class of starship," The Admiral began on the bridges of both vessels. "Your mission is simple, to fully test the tactical systems, both offensive, and defensive, your two ships will be pit against each other. You're objective is to neutralize the opposing vessel by any means necessary. Good Luck, may the best man win. Computer, begin live combat simulation."

"Shields up, Red Alert," Spocky Ordered sitting in his chair.

Turn 1 - Conn

As the two ships bridges come to life Captain Drancoris orders the ship to perform a microwarp jump, hoping to execute a Picard Maneuver and confuse his opponent. Unfortunately the small Steamrunner's new engines are still having the bugs worked out and the sudden push for a surge of energy causes them to stall.

Captain Spocky, seemingly unaware that the simulation has started sits on his bridge staring at the enemy.

With the two ships having stalled out, Captain Drancoris decides to conserve his ammunition and orders all hands to brace for impact.

Captain Spocky orders his two forward standard photon torpedo tubes to fire on the distant Artimis. the two photons leapt forth from the Watt's bow, but the distance was too much for the targeting computer to compensate and both streak wide of their intended target.

Captain Spocky makes no moves, continuing to stare out the viewscreen at the enemy.

Captain Drancoris however orders the ship ahead full. The impulse engines roar to life as the ship starts to move forward, rapidly closing the distance between the two vessels.

Captain Spocky orders the standard torpedo tubes to fire two more photons at the approaching vessel.

Captain Drancoris doesn't blink as the two torpedoes approach, but is no less relieved with both torpedoes fly wide of the ship.

Ignoring the stares of bewilderment from the rest of his (simulated) bridge crew, Captain Spocky again orders his ship to sit in space.

Captain Drancoris however orders his ship to continue the charge hoping to bring them into a reasonable enough range that he will actually be able to shoot. The Artimis continues its mad dash forward and closes the distance to 109,500m.

Turn 3 - Tac

Captain Spocky quickly turns to his tac officer and orders the forward phasers to fire, followed by a full spread of torpedoes. The deadly phaser beams jump off the surface and slam into the forward shields of the Artimis, weakening them. Next comes the full onslaught of torpedoes. The first two from the standard photon launchers manage to go wide, but standard spread from the two pulse fire tubes all find the mark. The first two torpedoes slam into the already weakened forward shields, but can't punch through. The third, fourth and fifth have no problems however and all slam into the forward section completely destroying it. The remaining torpedoes scatter around the remaining shield sections. One lucky hit causes a fire to erupt in the starboard section.

Captain Drancoris similarly orders a full spread of torpedoes to launch, standard spread. Only one of the torpedoes goes wide. Five of the torpedoes spread their damage around to the port and starboard shields, the rest all hit the ship square on. The first three torpedoes have their damage held by the forward shields, but the strain causes the to collapse. The rest slam into the forward section, cleaving a hole in the ship where it used to sit and dealing roughly 10,000TJ of damage to the Central Section, but causing no further damage.

Turn 4 - Conn

Captain Spocky orders his ship hard to starboard and thrusters forward hoping to draw himself around to broadside the enemy ship. The Watt carefully turns and moves ahead at half imulse, reaching the desired mark Spocky orders the ship Port, back to it's original heading and ahead. The helmsman is able to stop the ship and turn, but the pressure of the complex maneuver catches up to him and the ship fails to move any further.

Meanwhile Captain Drancoris orders his ship hard to Port and ahead at full Impulse. He simultaneously orders the helsman to try and angle the ship so that it's presenting it's starboard side to the enemy. In graceful fashion the Artimis Helmsman turns the same direction as the Watt but moves much faster increasing the distance between the two ships before finishing off with a small angling maneuver.

SITREP:
The two ships are now 215,058m apart. The ships are angled such that the Artimis' Starboard Side is facing the Forward/Port Quarter of the Watt.

Turn 4 - Tac

Captain Spocky orders a full strike targeting the Artimis' Starboard Nacelle. The two remaining forward phasers and the forward torpedo tubes are able to get a lock and fire. Unfortunately the angle, distance, and slim profile of the Steamrunner leads to all eight torpedoes flying wide, as well as one of the phasers. The other hits the starboard shields, but cause no further damage.

Captain Drancoris orders two security squads to the transporter rooms and then for both starboard phasers to fire. They lance out and manage to fit through the hole in the forward shields and strike the port section dealing 12,000TJ of damage, but causing no other issues. The security teams then beam out. The first one materializes just a few meters outside the Watt's hull, the second one however manages to make it aboard.

Captain Drancoris orders his ship to take evasive action after narrowly missing a barrage of torpedoes. With the main computer gone the helmsman has to manually type in every maneuver, but he proves up to the task.

Captian Spocky orders his ship ahead full trying to finish the maneuver he'd already started, but one of the Artimis's failed boarding parties appears to have gotten lodged in the Watt's impulse manifold and the ship stubbornly refuses to move anywhere.

SITREP:
The two ships are now 215,058m apart. The ships are angled such that the Artimis' Starboard Side is facing the Forward/Port Quarter of the Watt.

Turn 5 - Tac

Captain Drancoris orders a full phaser strike against the Watt. The two lethal beam lance out and strike through the hole in the forward shields striking the Central section and dealing 12,000TJ of damage, but causing o further damage. Two more boarding parties attempt to beam out; but the transporters fail to get a lock on the enemy ship.

Captain Spokcy again orders a full strike against the Artimis. The evasive maneuvers allow the ship to avoid most of the damage; but both forward phasers and two photon torpedoes strike the starboard and dorsal shields. The combined might of the fire causes the shields to flicker, but they hold. Unfortunately the damage that bleeds through starts another fire in the Starboard Section.

Aboard the Watt. The Artimis boarding party attacks the Armory; however, the security forces are able to hold them off and pick off one of the boarding parties.

Turn 6 - Conn

Captain Drancoris orders his ship about to face his enemy. As the ship slowly turns he orders his helmsman to restart his evasive maneuvers; however the manual input he skillfully performed last time has taken its mental and physical toll and he is simply unable to match his earlier performance.

Captain Spocky meanwhile orders his ship in full reverse, however the redshirds from the Artimis are still impeding the ships maneuvers and prevent the ship from moving once again.

Turn 6 - Tac

Captain Spocky attacks quickly sending a full strike targeting the Artimis' starboard nacelle. The first phaser its the nacelle square followed by 2 photon torpedoes severely damaging the nacelle and rendering it inoperable. The Watt's second phaser beam narrowly misses the ship as do two photon torpedoes. Unfortunately for the crew of the Artemis the next 4 all find the ship with two hitting the starboard section and tearing the hull apart conveniently eliminating the fire in that section. The second two slam into the forward and central sections completely scrapping what remained of the Artimis' forward section and dealing severe damage to the Central Section, fusing the Artimis' last two photon torpedo tubes shut.

Captain Drancoris simultaneously orders his entire arsenal on the distant Watt. His fist salvo of torpedoes all fly wide unfortunately, as do the first two from his second salvo. The final two torpedoes mange to strike the Central and Port Section of the Watt shutting down power to the Watt's port Transporter Room, and destroying the Watt's Photon Torpedo Launchers. The Watt's first phaser strike hits the starboard section, but causes no further damage, while the second phaser strikes the central section causing the front of the bridge to get ripped off. Most of the bridge crew manage to grab hold of something sturdy while the emergency force field activates, but a few crewman were sucked into the vacuum (-1 to all rolls next turn).

Aboard the Watt the Artimis' boarding party continues their assault on the Armory, but the Watt's security is able to fend them off killing a second member of the boarding party in the process.

Captain Spocky, having finally recovered from the sudden decompression, stands up to find his helmsman having been sucked into space. He quickly taps on the comm and orders his second helms officer to the bridge.

Captain Drancoris orders his ship to spin in space turning his aft shields toward the enemy. Sensing some kind of an advantage, Drancoris orders his ship to full Reverse, rapidly closing the distance between the two ships.

Turn 7 - Tac

Captain Spocky fires both remaining forward phasers at the approaching enemy, both manage to find the mark and slam into the aft shields dealing 12,000TJ, but no further damage.

Captain Drancoris opens up with his four aft facing phasers and targets the central section. Three of the four manage to find the ship dealing 18,000TJ damage. The phaser beams destroy what remains of the bridge (-1 to all future rolls) just after Captain Spocky ordered it evacuated. The severe damage causes the warp core to destabilize, but the heroic actions of Ensign Hull prevented the warp core from going critical(+1 to all WC failure rolls). His ashes shall be forever honored.

Aboard the Watt, the Artimis' boarding party successfully break through into the Armory (-1 to all future tac rolls), though at the cost of 2 more men.
