Rochey had already established that his sidearm was called a "pulsegun." To me, this implies some sort of directed EM radiation - but I've been wrong before...

It's only the name, I chose it becuase it sounded cool.
As I said already, I envision it working through concussive force, which would probably be more lethal to a crystaline creature that lives comfortable in 200+ degree temperatures.
How it achieves these results, I really haven't a clue.

Maybe.
Or maybe it works by utilising a quantum flux charger ionic system to create a graviometric quantum field passing through subspace which causes internal quantum expansion within the target's biomolecular quantum structure, leading to explosive quantum rupturing in the target area?

Oh wait. This isn't a Federation weapon.

I think you should change the name, per the following quote from Ash (Army of Darkness):

That would be much easier.

This could go EVERYWHERE! When we land on the planet, we could walk right into the middle of the encampment and say, "Listen up, you primitive screwheads!"

Okay, I am now stuck with the perversely entertaining idea of a Tholian saying that.

Umm.. may i venture a suggestion?

It could work on MASER technology.. that is, rather than using light or infared radiation like a Laser to excite and damage particles and denature proteins (which would kill an organic) ... it activley attacks the molecules of the target and smashes them into their fundemental particles, effectivley dissasembling anything it hits... a MASER beam could make a clean slice through a Tungsten I bar like a knife through butter, and wouldnt be refracted by crysteline structures because it doesnt rely on waves...

Though, there is the small chance that it causes a small nuclear explosion on impact. Just a little one. And its only a very small chance, less than 20%... Besides, im sure that Alpha Radiation is the least of a Crysteline organism's worries.

MASER = Microwave Aplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation

A maser would do considerably less damage as it is a lower energy lower frequency form of radiation than visible light (or a LASER = light aplifications... blah ). You would do a nice job of warming up their ship for them :) And it relies inherently on waves. All a laser/maser does is make the oscillations of an EM emission coherent with adjacent waves.

...oops xD *shuts up* I thogth it was Molecular Applification... that'll teach me to double check.

Wait.. what the hell was i thinking of, then? o.o I know SOMETHING does that... hrmm..

Besides, the Tholians like it hot.

Stop trying to inject real science into our technobabble!

Mikey be nice to him. He's a little skittish around Trekkies. Like deers around hunters, except we aren't trying to shoot him.
