State an Unpopular Opinion

Post by Bryan Moore »

Now's your chance to defend the indefensible, if you will - give an opinion on Star Trek that goes against the popular opinion/might rub some Trekkies the right way.

Mine:

Kirk is the third best captain in Star Trek and Archer is the only captain of the group that didn't deserve to be court-martialed many times over

Neelix was the most likable person on Voyager

The Prophets were sanctimonious twats to a MUCH higher degree than the Q Continuum

The writing in TNG/DS9/VOY turned the Klingons into a boring frenemy

I like the design of the NX-01. And you wanna know why it looked more futuristic? Because it was made in the mid-2000's!

Enterprise had a great theme.

I can get behind this. I can totally get behind this... it was a nice design, however derivative of the Akira Class. If, somehow, the series were produced chronologically, and we actually had Enterprise first, you'd really end up with a (production technology not withstanding) clear lineage.

The first two seasons of TNG are damn enjoyable television.

Completely agree with Season 2... Season 1 is borderline.

Here's something related:

Dr. Pulaski was a fantastic character portrayed by a fantastic actress.

Being offended by something does make you right.

The man dress from early TNG isn't stupid. He can pee faster than any other man. Defacate faster too.

One assumes he still needs underpants, so not quite. Pulling one pair down is much the same as two :)

That depends upon what you offended about. This statement, for example, offends me, so clearly it's wrong by your own definition?

Man in a dress always amuses me. It seems to cause huge annoyance, even hatred. Yet women cross dress all the time without comment. Go back only 40-50 years and you'll find that a woman in trousers was completely unacceptable, now it's almost forgotten. Surely by the TNG era equality would be reached.

and one that I agree with. :) I was ready for something different. And Faith of the Heart was perfect for the show. In a good way, mind.

Good point. Perhaps the Yamato would not have been destroyed if Donald Varley could have had his wang out quicker to piss out the plasma fires from the malfunctioning ship.
