Loved loved loved the original film, with all the strange and creepy muppets. Totally wanted a little animal to call Fizgig! Looking forward to this, bigtime!

Re: Netflix is making a "The Dark Crystal" series
Having re-watched the original film before mini-binge-watching the series, I have to say "Bravo!"
The series expanded the universe ala Game of Thrones and Avatar, with so much new information and characters right off the bat, that you can get lost with who is from where, etc.
Most of the sequences with CGI inserted with puppetry, are quite seamless.
The entire thing is visually stunning, in the depth of interesting things to see.
"Dark" is the keyword, as these are not the muppets of your childhood. Scheming, deadly, brutal, are all terms that come to mind (in the best ways possible).
Impressed and anxious to hear if Netflix is 'all in' for a second go around, even if it takes a long time to produce.
Fizzgig is my spirit animal: gotta love that rolling fluffy ball of teeth!

Re: Netflix is making a "The Dark Crystal" series
The voice acting is great. Love Jason Isaacs as the Emperor. The Emperor is certainly a driven and powerful creature, compared to his role in the movie. It's easy to see why he rose to be the unchallenged emperor of these incredible vile Skesis. The Chamberlain is fantastic no matter who voices him. That whimper and mischievous face. The world building is great, I love how even though the main focus is on 3 Gelfling clans we get little scenes of other clans through a little exposition and a bit more interaction. Love the new characters, particularly the Heretic. If there's a season 2, more of him and his buddy please! Also that little paladin. So sweet, so brave. That's not to say there isn't enough of some characters or too much of others. The behind-the-scenes people did a fantastic job giving characters enough time, which is remarkable considering the amount of well-known actors they got to voice this series. It's truly a wonderful world to behold, and I only wish I didn't know how it will all end.
I do have a major complaint and it is regarding the Skeksis. I am really distracted by that tongue movement. Too much movement, in fact.
A smaller complaint is Rian.

Re: Netflix is making a "The Dark Crystal" series
Jason Isaacs does do evil well and seems to be getting typecast for that skill (Sherlock Holmes, John Carter, Shazam, Star Trek Discovery, etc).
Simon Pegg voiced the Chamberlain to perfection, I agree.
I wasn't as bothered about the over-active tongues, but I certainly did notice them waggling like non-bifurcated serpents.
The paladin Hup, was a wonderful character with a full arc to his journey. Plus he wore pants the entire time, which was a plus after the naked Podling butt that ran past the screen.
I do agree with your take on Rian. Hopefully if there is a second season, he will mature a bit in that area.
