Re: Orientation in space?
What T_A (I believe) called "space fantasy magic" may in fact be so, but that in no way invalidates it as a form of fiction. Quite true, for example the original Star Wars trilogy. One may as well say that George R. R. Martin is a mediocre hack, because dragons never really existed. Well...

Re: Orientation in space?
Does the author of that site have to sound like a condescending prick all the time? Yes. :poke: Actually, I don't think he is condescending at all, and you are probably taking it too personally. They seem to forget a key half of the term Science-Fiction. Namely, the FICTION part. The only requireme...

When an elevator goes up, you feel the extra weight and your legs account for that. When a bus goes forward you want to topple over if you are standing. If you layer your decks such that their normal is parallel to the direction of ship's acceleration you can walk around during 1G. *<:*)X If you lay...

Just straight up using momentum and surprise as its first weapon. A pet that draws blood from a human can't be trusted and should be dest...

What happens to all the '14ers of Mexican ancestry (some millions are not currently legal American citizens)? There will be a lot of '14ers living in territory under Spanish rule.
Yes, America is currently a food importer.

Re: Swap 1800 USA with 2014 USA
There is going to be some overlap where 2014 things could not exist at the same time as 1800 things. My first concern is how are we going to feed everyone? My second concern is what kind of epidemics will take hold? Malaria, Yellow Fever, and Small Pox could hit the '14ers very hard.

Re: Religion in general
I have my sentimental religious moments, but they are becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy when I have to deal with the people who I consider to be nutcases. I don't recall where I read this, but some people were lamenting the demise of church attendance (their own included) in western culture. ...

That is something that could have been nicely been explored, to see how a society, or segment of one straddles the cybernetic line between mere enhancement and one giant hivemind-grokfest.
Re: Augments
Who needs Augments Earth... at least since the Eugenic Wars. Can you imagine how heartbroken Khan's people must have felt, offering so much potential to the world only to have the peons turn on them and squander all that greatness in the Third World War? Those who DO have superior strength, speed A...
