Re: What if Voyager had been a Sovereign-class?

Good point, McAvoy, but you're forgetting the Janeway Principle, which dictates that when your ship may circumvent an aggressive and territorial species, you must decide to pursue a course which will be most likely to provoke said species. True. If Janeway commanded the Sovereign class USS Voyager ...

Re: Sol post Dominion War.

I vaguely remembering there were 12 planes but I am not sure. One thing I have wondered since that episode is how big the Breen fleet was. It couldn't be that big since it would have been a waste and even the Dominion would not have liked to hear about some sort of dumb suprise attack that cost the ...

Re: Galaxy-Class (Dominion War Refit) Vs. Galaxy Class

If we consider that the Galaxy that was damaged by the weapons platforms is the same as the Enterprise then the weapons platforms was far more powerful than the Duras BoP. The weapons platforms left huge gaps in the saucer and the engineering sections whereas the damage done to the Enterprise was fa...

Re: Sol post Dominion War.

That and the Royal Navy would never have attacked the US Atlantic Coast. On top of the US North Atlantic Fleet, there are massive numbers of land based aircraft to deal with. The RN had no where near the numbers of carriers to combat the US air superiority. If the RN somehow managed to get past thi...

Re: Swappable Components

I don't think so. Easily swappable means easily removed. Ships are built on a skeleton which are welded/riveted/self sealing stem bolted/duct taped together which means that they part of the overall strength of the ship. Whereas while a module or easily swappable component can be made part of the fr...

Re: Ancients

I agree. I think the Ancients were too humanized by the time the end of Atlantis. But I still liked the idea, though I'd rather like them to be not so arrogant.

Re: What if Voyager had been a Sovereign-class?

I always figured that if a Sovereign or even a Galaxy class ship instead of a Intrepid class might do better against the Kazon and so forth, but wouldn't such a larger and much more powerful ship attract attention as opposed to being ignored? I mean, there could have been a species that was monitori...

Re: Galaxy-Class (Dominion War Refit) Vs. Galaxy Class

I meant the ratio between the damage done by the BoP's weapons is far, far less than the damage done to the Galaxy by the weapons platforms. Compare the two, and you scan see the damage is much greater with the weapons platforms. Also, I said it could rip the neck off. Not completely, but damage it ...

Re: Dominion War Redux

You are correct that all US battleships built in WW2 was not all built with lower speed in mind. However, the Iowa class is the eception to the rule because they were designed for two reasons. To keep up with the carriers as escorts and as a counter to the Japanese Kongo class battlecruisers.

Re: Galaxy-Class (Dominion War Refit) Vs. Galaxy Class

To be fair, planes nowadays for example the F/A-18E/F they are built out of wide ranging materials. Wings for example are made of fiberglass, composites, and other materials. They are designed to be fleible because wings on any aircraft will flex in flight. The fuselage is made of sturdier materials...

Re: Specialized Galaxy Primary Hulls

Would the saucer's shape remain the same? War field dynamics be altered for a different shape? I mean, what if you simply turn the saucer 90 degrees? I would see colony/cargo/planetary evacuation saucers, 'battle' saucers, massive science suite saucers, shuttle/fighter carriers. I would make the who...

For some reason when I read this, Firefly popped in my head.

If it were a series, I would think the Jem'Hadar would end up rebelling against the Vorta. Like said above.

Re: Dominion War Redux

They said in the end of that book that 40% of the fleet destroyed. Consdering that it was 5 or 6 years after the Dominion War, I don't think the fleet was back up to full pre-Dominion War strength. Granted, the ships built in those 5 or 6 years are probably superior to the ones destroyed in the Domi...

Re: Sol post Dominion War.

I think defending Sol is the equivilant of defending the US coast between 1900 to 1950. The US has a great advantage (and disadvantage) of having two large oceans between any European or Asian country. Once you get there and perhaps even engage the local fleet or even take on the whole battlefleet, ...
