Re: Scandal at Massachusetts crime lab

1,100 Cases without a QC check? They never put in some test samples to check up on someone who's work is going to be critical to convicting people? One chemist said: "Dookhan would submit a cocaine sample and it would come back heroin or vice versa." How does that not immediately bring eve...

Re: Gaming Wars

It is certainly possible to get a computer with equal gaming capability of the new uberconsoles but you'd be spending many times as much money, especially in the PS4's case. Actually no, you can build a gaming that's better than a PS4 for $500. Once you factor in the cost of multiplayer (free for t...

Re: The Final Countdown

The only way Europe would have been different is if the invansion of France was delayed put off and thye were just holding a stalemate for a few years, either low key war or temp peace. But if the Germans got the A Bomb first, or even second, it would have changed everything. The path the Germans w...

Re: Captain Kirk to command new destroyer

Are you kidding me? Are you? Congrats on your point, in a thread about a guy named Captain Kirk on a Star Trek message board getting command of a ship which derailed into a hope he might be given command of a ship that hasn't even had it's keel laid down yet to satisfy a Trekkie in joke. What the f...

Re: Captain Kirk to command new destroyer

He's of the appropriate rank and this entire argument is based off a "wouldn't it be cool if," statement that the guy could be put in command for a bit to have captain Kirk command the USS Enterprise. Not lead it into battle, just have "Captain Kirk," in the ship's history. Yes, ...

Re: Captain Kirk to command new destroyer

Top of my head, I can't. However your objection based on special treatment of someone you yourself admitted that happens all the time. As for satisfying a group of people, they named one of the test Shuttle's Enterprise just based off the whims of trekkies in the late 1970's. Something a lot more pu...

Re: The Final Countdown

Seafort is right. The attacks on Wake and the Phillipines would have brought the US into the war. Graham's also right that with the loss of those four carriers and their attendant escorts the Japanese navy would have been gutted. They'd have lost their four best carriers, all their best pilots and a...

Re: SF Debris: Equinox

Equinox could have been one of the best episodes of Trek ever, but it was part of Voyager. That's the real disappointment of things like this and Year of Hell. You get glimmers of what could have been if everyone wasn't so incredibly incompetent on the show.

Re: Captain Kirk to command new destroyer

Again which is why it will never happen. Its basically special treatment whether he is Captain for two minutes or two years. Yeah, because no one in the military has ever gotten special treatment before. Besides, if the guy is in command for a day what's he going to do? A carrier is a major command...

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I'm not talking about length, I'm talking about content. I want more heros, more villains, women in spandex, odd stuff happening. I want it to feel like the Marvel universe and these guys are on the front line of dealing with it. Right now it feels like the second string of a farm team being allowed...

Re: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I've watched a couple episodes of it and I'm distinctly meh on the whole thing. I'm not sure what I expected but I was wanting more comic-booky stuff than this. This is very much like people probing around the edges of the marvel universe and I was hoping for something that would be more in the midd...

In a more draconian fashion I can see people being given a shot of anti-dote before they leave a bar or club to force them to sober up before being allowed to drive.

Re: Budget cutback for Trek XIII?

Doesn't bother me. What'll get cut are flashy special effects forcing them to produce a script more focused on characters and drama than starships crashing.

Re: Random hypothetical

Interestingly it turns out you're a net oil exporter but only by a very slim margin. You export only about 100,000 barrels a day. So bravo. I'm still not sure about refining capacity but You're still fucked. Oil's the easiest, and hey, in that case you're sitting pretty. However that doesn't change ...
