Plotline

Sarek is injured when a "logic extremist" attempts to assassinate him during a mission to broker a peace deal with renegade Klingon houses. Burnham senses his injuries through her telepathic link with Sarek. She contacts the Captain and he agrees to rescue him. Admiral Katrina Cornwell questions this decision and others that he has been making recently. She joins him on Discovery to investigate first hand.

Sarek is lost in a nebula making traditional methods of finding him impossible. Burnham, Tyler and Cadet Sylvia Tilly use a shuttle to search the nebula, hoping that Burnham's telepathic link can be used to awaken Sarek. Each time Burnham connects with Sarak she finds him remembering the events around her unsuccessful application for the Vulcan Expeditionary Group. When he notices her connection he rejects her causing the link to disconnect. Eventually, Burnham discovers that the Vulcan Expeditionary Group would only agree to admit one of his children and that Sarek had chosen Spock over her. Spock's ultimate decision to join Starfleet made that decision futile. Burnham helps him get over this and Sarek regains consciousness and activates a locator beacon, allowing the shuttle to rescue him.

Lorca and Cornwell rekindle their old relationship and have sex, but she grows increasingly concerned by his paranoid behavior and plans to remove him from command of Discovery. With Sarek's injuries he is unable to meet with the rebel Klingons. Lorca suggests that Cornwell takes his place. Later they discover that the peace talks were a trap and Cornwell was taken captive, denying her the chance to remove Lorca from command.
