Plotline

Burnham asks Captain Pike about Spock's personal log entry, he reveals that Spock committed himself to a psychiatric unit one week after taking leave. He says that Spock requested Starfleet not inform his parents or Burnham about it.

When another signal is detected, Discovery uses its spore drive to travel there before it vanishes. When they arrive, they find the planet Terralysium with a previously unknown human population. A signal is discovered that suggests that the population departed Earth sometime during World War III. Pike and Burnham lead an away team to the planet. There they find a primitive society with a religion combining many of Earth's belief systems.

As the investigation continues, an anomaly produces an extinction-level radiation shower. Ensign Tilly, acting on a suggestion from a fellow ensign, uses a piece from the asteroid's non-baryonic matter to avert a catastrophe on the planet. Tilly later realises that the ensign was May Ahearn, her high school classmate who died five years earlier.

Pike reviews footage from a helmet camera found on the planet which belonged to a founding member of the society. It shows the "Red Angel" bringing the population to Terralysium from Earth.
