Review : The impressive technological and acting achievements of having Brent Spiner play three roles alone gives this episode some merit. But apart from that, "Brothers" is an episode with lots of potential that is only half realized. Among other things, the ending feels a bit rushed, as if the writers could have used an extra 10 minutes on this one.

Review : An important Data episode, and while not a bad episode, there are some pretty obvious flaws. Did the thought occur to them to take a shuttle down to the planet instead of screwing around with the transporter for God knows how long? Also some of the scenes with the kids seem a little cheesy, a typical TNG flaw.

Review : Another episode where one actor spent a lot of time talking to himself (did Brent Spiner get paid three times?). He certainly did it fairly well, but then he is a very good actor. The contrast between Soong, Lore and Data was done very well, in writing as well as in acting. However, the story stretches a bit thin in places. It does seem a bit strange that nobody thought of using a shuttlecraft (especially since Data could have taken one and not delayed the ship at all). Since they are warp-capable and have independent systems, it might just have been possible to have got the child from sickbay to the starbase, or at least call another ship to pick them up. Rick Berman perhaps letting plot get in the way of practicality. So, what we got in the was patchy. Nevertheless, it was still a half-decent episode.

Review : I liked this episode a fair bit. It was great to meet Data's creator, even though it meant the reintroduction of Lore. The whole evil twin routine was interesting the first time, but it was a bit too predictable this time. I was just waiting for the moment when Lore turned evil again. Spiner put in a great performance as Data, Lore and Soong. I find it hard to believe that the ship could so easily be taken over by a single individual though, especially that Picard wouldn't already have access codes isolating his commands. All in all, it had its share of flaws, but it was an interesting romp.
