Kataanians

NotesImagesDatapoints
TimelinePeople
Universe : Prime Timeline
Species Name : Kataanians [1]
Quadrant : Alpha

Alpha quadrant species which was located in the Silarian sector. Their system had six planets, one of which - Kataan - was inhabitable. Approximately one thousand years ago their star began to increase its output, causing a long drought on the planet. The Kataanians had relatively low level technology, and could do nothing to return their star to normal. They did develop a sufficient level of space travel to launch a small probe containing a record of their civilization and some artefacts, and this travelled through space for one thousand years until it encountered the Enterprise-D in 2368. The probe transmitted its record into the mind of Captain Picard, who experienced it as a lifetime of memories of living as a Kataanian. Within the experience Picard settled down and became a family man in a small local community, helping to raise two generations in the final years of the civilization.

The Enterprise tracked the probe back to Kataan, finding that the planet's sun had eventually gone nova and rendered the Kataanians extinct. Captain Picard remains the Federation's authority on the Kataanians. [1]
