The Federation has a long history with antigraity technology. Used aboard ship, antigravs have a large range of diverse functions; primarily, units of various kinds are used for the transport of cargo around ship. In the 2260s Starfleet issued general purpose antigrav units which could attach to heavy items, allowing them to float and so be easily dragged around.
