In 2259 the USS Enterprise was on a mission to survey the planet when they discovered that it threatened with an environmental catastrophe as a result of a gigantic volcano which was near to eruption. As this would have rendered the Nibirans extinct, Captain Kirk chose to intervene to avert the eruption and prevent the disaster. [1] Afterwards, Kirk lied about their actions on his report to Starfleet. Spock, however, chose to relate all of the details of their mission. Unfortunately this didn't work and Thad passed away. Troi and Riker remained on the planet with their daugher Kestra. In 2399, The Artifact, a disabled Borg Cube operated by the Romulans, was located less than 40,000 light years from the planet. Hugh used assimilated trajector technology on The Artifact to transport Picard and Soji to the planet, where they met with Will and Deanna.
