This caused a shift in the orbit of Ceti Alpha V that changed what had been a somewhat hospitable climate into one almost impossible to survive in; although the atmosphere remained breathable the surface was barren, and subjected to harsh storms. Only one native life form survived the change, a small and deadly eel. Many of Khan's followers would be killed by the creature and the harsh environment.
