In accordance with standard procedure, Captain Picard is court martialled for the loss of the USS Stargazer. Captain Phillipa Lovouis prosecutes. [1] During the trial Louvois, who is involved in a romantic relationship with Picard, uses private information from their relationship against him in her cross-examination. She is censured by the court for prosecutorial misconduct. [2] Captain Picard is exonerated by the court martial. Louvois subsequently leaves Starfleet, feeling she has been forced out. [1]

Whilst there Commander Bruce Maddox attempts to transfer Lieutenant Commander Data to his command so that he can experiment on the Android. In a historic ruling, JAG officer Captain Phillipa Louvois states that Data has individual rights which allow him to refuse to undergo the procedure. [1]
