Degra

Universe : Prime Timeline
Name : Degra [1]
Species : Xindi Primates

A prominent figure amongst the Xindi, Degra represented the Xindi Primates on the ruling council of his people. He was also the designer of the Xindi weapon which was intended for use against Earth in the mid 2150s. [2]

Degra was devoted to his wife and children; he remarked that on seeing the telemetry coming in from the test of the initial version of the weapon on Earth he was deeply saddened by the millions of deaths he was inflicting, especially given that many of the victims would be children. Degra himself had two children, Piral and Jaina. [3] A third child, Trenia, died before birth when his wife contracted Anaprolean fever. [4]

Degra was involved in many different aspects of the construction of the series of weapons he built for the Xindi project to destroy Earth – for instance in 2153 he visited a Xindi-Arboreal facility to negotiate for the acquisition of kemocite for the weapon. Gralik, manager of the facility, sabotaged the shipment after being contacted by Captain Archer [5], and as a result the test of one of the prototypes failed, setting development back some time. [6]

At one point Archer managed to capture Degra, and engaged in an elaborate deception in order to determine the location of the final version of the weapon. Archer pretended that many years had passed since Degra had worked on the weapon; Earth had indeed been destroyed, but a civil war had broken out amongst the Xindi afterwards. In the aftermath of the conflict Degra and Archer had become friends. The deception worked, with Degra revealing that the weapon was located at Azati Prime. Degra’s memory of the event was blanked afterwards and he was allowed to continue on his way. [3]

Degra was the first Council member who came to trust Captain Archer. He even destroyed a Xindi Reptilian vessel which attempted to capture the NX-01. [7] Degra took Archer to meet with the ruling council so that he could present evidence that the Sphere Builders had been lying to the Xindi regarding Earth’s role in the destruction of their future homeworld. [8]

Commander Dolim pretended to believe in Archer’s arguments, but this was a deception; Dolim had evidence that Degra had destroyed one of his ships, and murdered Degra in retaliation. Dolim promised that once Earth had been dealt with he would kill the rest of Degra’s family as well [8]; fortunately Captain Archer killed Dolim before he could make good on the threat. [9]
