Mareel was rescued from a difficult life on Khafka IV by Verad when he worked there. She became his companion, and helped him in his plan to steal the Dax symbiont from Jadzia. A firece fighter, Mareel could have allowed Verad to escape but came to realise that with the symbiont he was no longer the man she loved. She freed Commander Sisko so that he could catch Verad and return the symbiont to Jadzia. [1]
