Encountered by the crew of the Enterprise after their ship was destroyed in 2263, Jaylah was also a victim of Krall. She was captured along with her family when their own ship was destroyed years earlier. Her family were murdered by Manas, Krall's associate, during the escape attempt, though she was able to escape successfully. [1]

After her escape Jaylah found the wreck of the USS Franklin on the planet and was able to set up home there, referring to it as her 'House'. An intelligent and resourceful individual, she was able to restore many of the systems of the Franklin to functional status to provide her with shelter, food, power, etc. [1]

She was the third person encountered by Scotty after he escaped the destruction of the Enterprise and landed on Altamid. The two joined forces, and she subsequently assisted Kirk and his officers in rescuing the Enterprise crew from Krall. In the process she killed Manas by dropping him off a building. [1]

In the aftermath she stayed at Starbase Yorktown. Ensign Chekov arranged for her to be accepted to Starfleet Academy, should she wish to join. [1]
