Commander of the USS Constellation. In 2265 the ship investigated Ravanar IV, a planet in the Taurus reach. His crew discovered the Taurus meta-gene, an exceptionally complex genome contained within biological samples from the planet. [2]

Decker lost his entire crew when the Doomsday machine destroyed the planet he had beamed down to. Consumed with grief, Decker took command of the Enterprise and attempted to destroy the machine. He failed and was removed from command by Captain Kirk, in violation of regulations. Decker stole a shuttlecraft and rammed it into the mouth of the machine, killing himself. [1]
