A Starfleet doctor and specialist in holographic technology, Zimmerman developed the Emergency Medical Hologram for Starfleet. He later began work on the Long-term Medical Hologram, using Dr. Bashir as a template. Unfortunately Zimmerman discovered that Bashir's parents had had him genetically engineered as a child and so disqualified him from the project. Ximmerman was strongly attracted to Leeta whilst on Deep Space Nine, but she prefered the company of Rom. [1]
