A police officer in San Francisco during 2024, Bernardo had a partner named Sonya who disliked the long hours he worked. Barnardo was not a great supporter of the Sanctuary district laws in force in the USA at this time, but he was prepared to uphold them.2 He was one of the hostages held during the Bell riots; his life was saved by the man known to history as Gabriel Bell.1
