The owner of a boarding house in San Francisco on Earth during the late 1800s, Mrs Carmichael provided rooms for members of the Enterprise-D crew during their visit to the period. Although the officers were unable to pay the bill, Captain Picard was able to convince her to allow them to remain in the lodgings. Mr. Samuel Clemens ultimately promised to settle the account.1
