A member of the Zalkonian species, John Doe began to undergo a transformation into a non-corporeal entity in 2366. His government feared this change and attempted to kill Doe; he survived, though he was badly wounded, and was rescued by the Enterprise-D. He completed the transformation aboard the ship and returned to his world to spread the news that the process was harmless.1
