Captain Pike was the captain of the NCC 1701 Enterprise before Captain Kirk. He made first contact with the Talosians during his time on the ship and recommended that Humans should avoid contact because of their immense power of illusion.2 Pike was badly disfigured in an accident aboard a starship in 2267.3 His former shipmate Spock returned him to Talos so that the Talosians could give him the illusion of health again.4
