In the 2320s Karnas was leader of one faction on the planet Mordan IV. He took Federation hostages and demanded weapons for their release, a demand which Admiral Jameson secretly met. Jameson equipped the other side with equal weaponry, but a forty year long civil war resulted. Karnas blamed Jameson for the devastation and again took Federation hostages in 2364 to force a confrontation with him. He released the hostages when Jameson died as a result of an overdose of a de-ageing drug.1
